How the Game is Played
A roller derby bout consists of 2 thirty minute periods played between two teams. The thirty minute periods are broken up into 2 minute jams. In between jams skaters have 30 seconds to swap out and realign. If skaters are not in place at the start of the jam the team skates short.

Each team has 5 skaters on the track during a jam: 1 pivot, 3 blockers and 1 jammer. Blockers and pivots take off from the pivot line on the first whistle, signaling the start of a jam. The blockers and pivots from both teams skate in a pack with the objective of stopping the opposing jammer while making a path for their own jammer to get through.

On the second whistle both team's jammers sprint off the jam line and through the pack trying to gain lead jammer status. The first jammer to make it through the pack in-bounds and without penalties becomes lead jammer and may call off the jam at any time before the 2 minutes is up. It is possible for no lead jammer to be called if neither jammer makes it through the pack legally. After the initial lap through the pack jammers score points for each opposing skater they pass legally.

The Track Yes, there are rules! Skaters can receive penalties for:
-Throwing elbows
-Tripping
-Blocking with feet, hands or head
-Cutting the track or excessively skating out of bounds
-Fighting

4 minor penalties equal one major and will land a skater in the penalty box for 1 minute while their team skates shorthanded.
