BECOME A ROLLERGIRL: Join DCRD today!
To become a DCRD skater, one must meet a set minimum skill level as required by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association. It's not overnight, and may sound daunting, but with determination, will, and the help of your fellow skaters, you too can reach the level of "bout ready" rollergirl.

To reach that level, a minimum practice requirement is in place. These practices, alongside your fellow trainees, and with the guidance of experienced skaters, are your road to full membership and the title of "DCRD Rollergirl". All that is required is the will to come to practice and the desire to push yourself and your teammates further. If you have that, any skill can be learned. The road may not be easy, but you will not travel it alone. Your team is there to support you.

To skate for DCRD you must be female, 18+ and wear all required gear. To join our "Fresh Meat" program, strangely enough, you need not know how to skate---as we said above, any skill can be learned. Required gear includes skates, elbow and knee pads, wrist guards, mouth guard and helmet. All gear except a mouth guard, may be rented from the league. You must provide your own mouth guard.

Contact us today for more information on our "Fresh Meat" program, including weekly practice times and how to begin your training. Cue montage...

All of the Glory! None of the Bruises!
For men and women not wanting to compete, we're looking for dedicated individuals who are interested in joining our ref and stats crews. Wear the stripes or master the clipboard and keep us rowdy rollergirls in line!

Referees and stat crew members may be male or female, age 18+. Basic skating skills are preferred for those interested in reffing and we'll teach you the rest! For more information on how to become a ref or stat crew member please fill out the contact form.

Questions & Answers

I'm a small girl/large lady. Can I play Roller Derby?
If you’re petite, don’t be intimidated! Smaller skaters are usually fast on their feet and make great jammers. They can easily maneuver and fit through small holes in the pack. Bigger girls are great blockers because they are hard to push around the track and can give hard hits. Not to mention, training for roller derby will put you in amazing shape.

What equipment do I need?
To participate you will need full protective gear including knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, a helmet, and mouth guard. It is important to get good quality gear rated for lots of impact! For gear suggestions and where to purchase gear, email us.

How much time will it take?
Playing roller derby for DCRD is lots of fun but it also takes a certain level of dedication and competitiveness to succeed. Practices, scrimmages, bouts, fundraisers, and other events for the league can be a significant time commitment. All skaters are expected to make minimum attendance requirements each month and because DCRD is a skater owned and operated league, members do all league planning, promoting, and coordinating. However, being part of such a dynamic group of strong women is very rewarding and for many it becomes a life changing experience. We take this sport seriously but we have a blast doing it!

How much will it cost?
The biggest expenses in roller derby are the initial purchase of equipment and monthly league dues. To reduce costs for skaters DCRD holds regular fundraisers and seeks sponsors.
